Less curbside recycling soon?
The Chesterfield Board of Supervisors will be evaluating a change in CVWMA recycling collection from bi-weekly (which still is in effect) to once every 4 weeks.
Discussion scheduled for the Board of Supervisors at their April 15th meeting. If approved, the changes would start July 6th.
NBC12 has reported on this news, noting that the company who performs the collection, Tidewater, “believes the change will cut it’s pick up by nearly 600-tons which equals to thousands of lost revenue dollars. Right now, four to as many as 20 employees could lose their jobs.” In addition, NBC12 identified that the change is “upsetting residents” specifically with regards to the volume of recycling already being collected, and that they already have enough recycling collected for the bi-weekly schedule. I personally would agree with this.
For those who would oppose the change, there is a coalition that has formed, called Recycle Twice. There you can join the coalition, which currently has a little under 500 members.

Every 4 weeks is going to be a pain. Right now we put out 3 FULL recycle bins. I don’t think I have room for 3 more bins. and our association is not going to let us put anything larger than recycle bins at the end of our yard.
If my supervisor (Gecker) votes for this, I’m going to start dropping off my bins at his house.
I agree. I used to try to use the single supplied recycle bin, but it doesn’t even come close. We just use a regular trash can (or two)… I was not sure if they would pick it up, but they do… now the recycle bin is used for kids stuff in the yard.
Neighborhood associations and their covenant restrictions are quite another matter though, aren’t they? I assume you heard at least a bit about Bexley?
I agree Eric, I too have three large bins and with a family of 5 they fill up VERY rapidly. It’s already a slight pain to recycle because it takes up more of my (limited) time but I do it for our environment. PLEASE don’t make it harder Chesterfield. I assure you my “dedication” to recycling will drop sharply with a months worth of (what amounts to) trash piling up around my home!
I was hoping that the recent push to “go green” might cause our recycling to get picked up more often and perhaps create more jobs in the area. Seems we are headed in the wrong direction.
