Falling Creek Ironworks

Join us for an exciting exploration of America’s first iron furnace, the 1619-22 ironworks on Falling Creek. Tour guides will lead you through the archaeological ruins of both the 1619 ironworks and Archibald Cary’s colonial grist mill. Activities will include guided tours, exhibits, costumed interpreters, living history, demonstrations such as period cooking, blacksmithing, shoemaking and candle making, and special performances by Virginia Indians and the Press Gang. Food and drinks will be available. Admission is free.

  4. Okay, uploaded about 40 pix to Flickr, and sent about half of them to the Chesterfield Daily photo pool.

    Really interesting time. I knew of the ruins of the bridge here, but I had no idea where the blast furnace or grist mill were located. I’m really hoping they raise the funds they need to fully excavate the area.
