Drivers be warned

Police are conducting a series of holiday DUI patrols, checkpoints and red light enforcement operations throughout the county this month. Problem areas have been identified, and officers will focus on these areas.

Two DUI checkpoints and a red light enforcement operation were conducted on Friday, Dec. 14. Targeted areas included Castlewood and Mill Race roads, Belmont and Newbys Bridge roads and Jefferson Davis Highway and West Hundred Road. Officers issued a total of 48 violations. Twenty-one of those were for running a red light, two for driving under the influence and two for not wearing a seat belt. The remaining violations included expired state inspection, expired license, no license in possession, no license, driving outside restrictions, defective equipment and possession of marijuana.

  1. Don’t much travel those, but used to go thru Jeff Davis and W Hundred intersection on occasion - boy that one could get bad sometimes. Didn’t I read that was the worst intersection for accidents somewhere?
