Cloverleaf Mall closing on Feb 29
Chesterfield County plans to close Cloverleaf Mall on Feb. 29.
Several businesses are closing following the 2007 holiday season, and it is no longer financially feasible for the mall to remain open. The Chesterfield County Economic Development Authority owns Cloverleaf Mall.
Cloverleaf Mall opened in 1972 and was the largest shopping center in the Richmond-Petersburg area at that time.
Chesterfield County purchased the mall in October 2004 after the major department stores — Hecht’s, JCPenny and Sears — moved out. The county intends to redevelop the property as a mixed-use project with retail, office and residential components. The goal of this project is to stimulate revitalization and reinvestment into the Eastern Midlothian Turnpike Corridor.
Crosland, Chesterfield County’s development partner, is preparing a revised plan for the redevelopment of the mall site that would expand space for office and commercial use.

My mom took me to see The Land Before Time at Cloverleaf Mall’s movie theater, and she liked it so much we actually went into JC Penney and bought a Little Foot stuffed animal (unprecedented). That is my obit for you, Cloverleaf.
I like that there is an Eastern Midlothian Turnpike Corridor.
The plans for the area look great on paper. That area of Midlothian could really use a new look.
