Chesterfield has a Hall Of Fame, who knew!

Maybe I am the only one that didn’t know this, but Chesterfield County has a Senior’s Volunteer Hall of Fame. I think visiting the Hall of Fame should be top on the Weekend Plans list, personally! Honestly, I don’t mean to make light of this because the 3 seniors that were inducted yesterday volunteer their time to make the community a better place.

The three inductees for 2007 are…

Blanche A. Castelow
Castelow is a volunteer and former board member with the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Richmond Chapter. She answers the chapter’s helpline and takes calls from caregivers at home. She facilitates two support groups and represents the association at community events and health fairs. In addition to her involvement with the Alzheimer’s Association, she serves as treasurer of the Lucy Corr Village Auxiliary and served on the Chesterfield Council on Aging Public Policy Committee for three years. She has served on the Chesterfield Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame Committee since 2001.

Dr. Betty Clapp
Clapp is a member of Hands Across the Lake and provides information about the environmental status of the Swift Creek Reservoir to the Upper Swift Creek community, the Board of Supervisors and the Planning Commission. Clapp also serves on the environmental committee of the Brandermill Community Association, as well as the 360 Corridor Committee. She is a retired senior therapist with Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services.

Shirley A. Hudson
Hudson serves as co-treasurer and vice chairwoman of the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother, which provides gifts and food to needy individuals during the holidays. She works behind the scenes to foster the mission of the program. Her duties include paying bills, filing reports with state government and the Better Business Bureau, receiving donations and writing thank you notes. Hudson also serves as a docent for the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia. She is treasurer and program chairwoman for the Providence Retired Club.
