Ack Ukrops!
So we all know that Ukrops sold to Ahold yesterday and we are all very very sad about it. Well, most of us that grew up on Dot’s Bakery and her delicious Rainbow cookies. All the details are here but how do you feel about this sale? Good the for the Ukrops family? Pros and Cons for the community?
It looks like the stores will carry the Martin’s name which is a similar operation to Ukrop’s plus the prepped foods and such are staying.Add Sunday’s and larger company pricing benefits and I think we’ll actually come out of this pretty well.I do believe some of the locations won’t survive this,like Oxbridge Square,as they are too small and can’t be modernized.I also believe as the years go by locations will be added.I hope this will be a decent alternative to Kroger and Food Lion.Kroger,the most expensive at least for me,compared around 20 items and Ukrop’s was cheaper on almost all,and Food Lion,a grunchy low end store,need something that splits the middle and the new company just may be it.I also think this is as good as Harris Teeter might have been especially if it is the Martin’s format.
