Course For Family Caregivers Is April 28

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Senior Advocate and Senior Connections, the Capital Area Agency on Aging will host a free course for family caregivers on April 28, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at Lucy Corr Village, 6800 Lucy Corr Blvd. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Celebrate Chesterfield Lectures Scheduled For April

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, will host two lectures in April as part of the Celebrate Chesterfield Spring Lecture Series. Healthy Relationships Is Topic Of April 17 Training

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – To recognize April at Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Chesterfield County Domestic and Sexual Violence Resource Center will host a free training titled, “Making Healthy Choices When Assessing Personal Relationships,” on April 17, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at Emanuel Restoration Church, 10700 Academy Drive, Midlothian.

The training is being offered in partnership with the Women of Color Caucus of the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance, and will focus on the importance of assessing healthy and unhealthy behaviors in relationships. The program will be interactive, and feature discussions and group activities.

Facilitators will include Shawntee Wynn, victim advocate with the Richmond YWCA, and Patricia Jones-Turner, domestic-violence coordinator with the Chesterfield County Domestic and Sexual Violence Resource Center.

The program is open to the public. Victim advocates, social workers and faith-based communities are encouraged to attend. Masked Men Rob Employee Of Wallet

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Police are investigating a robbery during which an employee’s wallet was stolen at gunpoint at KFC at 12321 Jefferson Davis Highway shortly before 10 p.m. on March 27.

Police said the restaurant was in the process of closing at the time of the incident. An employee exited a back door and was approached by two masked men. The suspects forced the employee back into the restaurant at gunpoint, ordered employees to the floor, struck the original victim and stole his wallet. Both suspects fled on foot.

Both suspects are black males, 19-25 years old and wore dark clothing. One suspect wore a camouflage bandana and the second suspect wore a white bandana.

Capital Region Workforce Centers Offer Free Services For Residents

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County has two full-service workforce centers that provide free employment assistance as part of the Capital Region Workforce Partnership (formerly known as the Capital Area Training Consortium). The two Chesterfield workforce centers are located at 7333 Whitepine Road, (804) 271-8510, and 6301 Midlothian Turnpike, (804) 675-9910. Both locations offer resource centers with Internet access, telephones, fax and copy machines, and résumé-building software. Services available include career counseling, skills testing, computer workshops, and one-on-one assistance with résumés, interviews and cover letters. Additionally, young people can learn about careers, either through career exploration programs or on-the-job training. Financial aid information is also available.

“This partnership exists to help citizens access information about the labor market and how to find a job,” says Rosalyn Key-Tiller, director of the Capital Region Workforce Partnership. “The centers also benefit from a number of onsite partner agencies, including representatives from the Virginia Employment Commission, the Department of Rehabilitative Services, community colleges and other adult education programs, all of whom offer invaluable assistance in searching for a new job or providing job training.”

The Capital Region Workforce Partnership consists of the counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent and Powhatan, and the city of Richmond. The most recent employment transition center to open as part of the regional effort is in Henrico County, at 4060 Innslake Drive. Residents of the seven counties and the city of Richmond may use any of the centers on a walk-in basis.

Police Search for Three Robbery Suspects

Police Search for Three Robbery Suspects-Police are searching for three unidentified men who robbed a woman in the 600 block of Watch Hill Road at about 1:20 a.m. today. The victim was returning from work and was not injured during the incident.
