Interested In The Police Senior Citizen Academy?

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Police Department Senior Citizen Academy invites residents to be a part of the next academy. The 10-week program begins May 12 and will meet on Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at the Clover Hill Police Facility, 2730 Hicks Road.

The program’s curriculum focuses on public safety and crime-related issues that can affect the senior community. Students also learn about the daily operations of the police department. Class topics include personal safety, crime prevention methods, identity theft, fraud, emergency communications, K-9 operations, special response teams, investigations and the Crime Solvers program.

The program is free to citizens 55 years or older, who reside, work or own a business, or belong to a civic organization in Chesterfield County. Please register immediately. Carver High School Is Subject Of Museum Exhibit In February

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Museum will present an exhibit Feb. 6-28 about Carver High School, the county’s only high school for black students from 1948 until 1970. Carver was housed in the building that today is Chesterfield Community High.

The exhibit consists of several items and mementos from the old school, including textbooks, a yearbook, photographs and a librarian’s uniform. “This exhibit will help people foster a better appreciation of history, whether it’s their own history or somebody else’s,” said Bryan Truzzie, historic sites manager with the Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation Department.

The Chesterfield County Museum is at 6813 Mimms Loop in the county government complex. Hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call (804) 751-4946.

Program To Focus On Resources For Caregivers

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Senior Advocate, in partnership with Senior Connections, The Capital Area Agency on Aging will present a program on Tuesday, Feb. 17, for people who have a loved one in the hospital or who are caring for someone at home. The program will focus on Medicare and community resources that are available for recovery or ongoing care needs. It is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. at Central Library, 9501 Lori Road. Prevention Services Announces Spring Educational Programs

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Prevention Services, a division of Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services, is pleased to announce its spring schedule of educational programs. Prevention Services staff have expertise in parenting, divorce adjustment and stress management. They provide services to individuals, families, businesses and community groups. Getting to Know Your Young Child

This class is for parents who want to learn more about the basic needs of young children, from newborns to preschoolers. Topics will include learning through play, handling challenging behaviors, child development and how to parent secure and confident children. The classes will be held Wednesdays, March 18-May 13, 6:30-8 p.m., at Chesterfield County Mental Health Support Services, 6801 Lucy Corr Blvd. The fee is $50.

ADHD: A Parent’s Tool Kit

This course for parents or caregivers of children with ADHD offers participants tools to help in raising a child with ADHD. Topics include talking to children about ADHD, helping children develop positive behaviors and decrease negative behaviors, teaching children to manage their feelings, and supporting children in being successful at school. Participants will have the opportunity to talk with other parents about common concerns in an informal atmosphere. The class will be held Tuesdays, March 10-April 28,
6:30-8 p.m., at Jacobs Road Elementary School, 8800 Jacobs Road. There will be no class on April 7. An optional martial arts class is available during class time for elementary-school children. The fee is $50.

Parenting Your Young Adolescent “The Jekyll and Hyde Years”

This is an evening course for parents of early adolescents, 10-15 years old. Development, effective communication, relationship enhancement, conflict reduction and behavior management are emphasized. Sessions will be held Tuesdays, March 17-April 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Manchester Middle School, 7401 Hull Street Road. There will be no class on April 7. The fee is $55.

Beyond Divorce

This is an evening course for recently separated men and women who are managing the emotional impact of divorce and setting new directions as single people. Historical Society Plans Special Presentation For Black History Month

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will present a free lecture about the history of Carver High School and its principal, W.A. Brown, on Saturday, Feb. 7, 11 a.m., at Magnolia Grange, 10020 Iron Bridge Road. Carver was Chesterfield County’s only high school for black students from 1948 until 1970. The speaker will be Thelma Bland Wyatt, a former student and teacher at the school. The lecture coincides with a special exhibit about Carver at the Chesterfield County Museum throughout February.

Immediately following the lecture, the Chesterfield NAACP will present its archives to the historical society. The archives will be added to the historical society’s library on a loan basis and will be available to researchers who visit CHS offices at Castlewood, 10201 Iron Bridge Road. The Rev. Lawrence D. Pollard II, who founded the Chesterfield County NAACP in 1984, will be on hand for the presentation.

Man Arrested Following On-Line Investigation-An on-line investigation resulted in the arrest of William B. Fuller, 50, of the 9000 block of Meadowfield Court in Henrico County on Jan. 28.

Man Arrested Following On-line Investigation

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – An on-line investigation resulted in the arrest of William B. Fuller, 50, of the 9000 block of Meadowfield Court in Henrico County on Jan. 28.

Fuller thought he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl rather than police. He is charged with use of a communications device to solicit sex from a minor and attempted indecent liberties with a minor. Fuller is employed as the VCU Police chief. He is being held without bond in the Chesterfield County Jail pending a pretrial hearing at 2 p.m. today in Chesterfield County Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

Police continue their investigation into this incident.
