CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – In an effort to prevent the spread of rabies, the Chesterfield County Health Department and Chesterfield County Animal Control will hold a rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, 1-3 p.m., at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds Arts and Craft Building, 10300 Courthouse Road.
Rabies vaccinations will be available for dogs and cats at a cost of $7 per animal. For safety, cats should be brought to the clinic in pet carriers.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation will offer Introduction to Fly Fishing on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 2 until 4 p.m., at Rockwood Park Nature Center, 3401 Courthouse Road. Andrew Stiles, a certified casting instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers, will share his knowledge about tackle, knots, artificial flies and local fly-fishing spots. CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Calling all teen artists in Chesterfield County! The deadline to register for a chance to compete in Bandfest, United for Change, is Jan. 19, 2009.
Bandfest, United for Change, is an alcohol- and drug-free event where youths can showcase their music and video-production talents. It will be held on the night of March 14, 2009, at Southside Church of the Nazarene, 6851 Courthouse Road, in Chesterfield County.
The registration deadline for band auditions and the video competition is Jan. 19, 2009. Band auditions will be held at 1 p.m. on Feb. 8 at the church.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA-Debbie Burcham, chief deputy commissioner for the Virginia Department on Aging, has been hired as Chesterfield County’s Community Services Board executive director effective January 26, 2009.
Burcham was hired after a national search that drew applications from approximately 30 applicants from 11 states. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Old Dominion University and a Masters Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia.
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – At 1 a.m. on Dec. 26, a police officer on routine patrol rode through the parking lot of Rox-C’s, 2126 Willis Rd. The officer heard gunfire and called for assistance as he tried to control the panicked crowd and stop several men from fleeing the area. Many officers were called to the scene to restore order. One man was arrested for disorderly conduct and another for public intoxication.
A large amount of blood was found in the parking lot, but no gunshot victim has been located and no witnesses have come forward.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that critically injured four people. The crash occurred in the 6900 block of Cogbill Road at about 9:07 p.m. yesterday.
Police said a 2002 Dodge Neon SE sedan was traveling west on Cogbill Road when the driver veered off the road and struck a tree.
The driver and three passengers were transported to VCU Medical Center with critical injuries. Police continue their investigation into this crash.
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – Chesterfield County Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in the 4000 block of Chippendale Court shortly before 10 p.m. on Dec. 21.
Police said two men approached the victim near his home and demanded money. One suspect displayed a gun and a short struggle ensued. The weapon discharged, but the victim was not injured. Both suspects then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
The suspects are described as black males, between 18 and 25 years old. They both wore dark clothing.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a domestic-related incident in which a 46-year-old man was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle driven by a 26-year-old woman. The incident occurred in a vacant lot in the 14000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway.
The victim, Michael W. Ellinger, was transported to VCU Medical Center.
Ariel C. Woods was arrested and charged with felonious assault. She is being held in the Chesterfield County Jail without bond pending a pre-trial hearing on Dec. 22.
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash that critically injured two people. The crash occurred on Courthouse Road at the entrance ramp to Route 76 at about 6:17 p.m. today.
Police said a 1998 Nissan Maxima sedan was traveling south on Courthouse Road when the driver turned into the path of a 2004 BMW X3 SUV traveling north.
The driver and a passenger of the Nissan were transported to VCU Medical Center with critical injuries. Police continue their investigation into this crash.
