If you haven’t opened up your 2008 Real Estate Reassessments yet - Don’t. Well I guess you better but for many in Chesterfield County it hasn’t been good news. Many people in the county are seeing increases over 20%.

Volunteer at the Black History Month family festival
Chesterfield County is celebrating Black History Month with its annual Arts, Education and Entertainment Family Festival on Feb. 16 from noon-5 p.m. at the Hecht’s building at Cloverleaf Mall. Walgreens Robbed
Police are searching for a man who robbed Walgreens at 11119 Hull Street Road at about 8:15 p.m. on Jan. 28. No one was injured during the incident.
Police said a man approached a clerk at the counter, asked for cigarettes and then demanded money from the register. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes.
The suspect is a white man between 32-36 years old. He has wavy, sandy hair, green eyes, decayed front teeth and appeared unkempt. He wore blue jeans, dirty white tennis shoes and a gray hooded sweatshirt underneath a blue, gray and black plaid flannel shirt.

Competition Showcases Successful Efforts by U.S. Cities and Towns to Help Young People Succeed
Chesterfield County, VA— America’s Promise Alliance (the Alliance), the nation’s largest alliance dedicated to children and youth, in partnership with Capital One, today announced that Chesterfield County has once again been named a winner of its 2008 100 Best Communities for Young People (100 Best) competition. The 100 Best competition recognizes the 100 outstanding communities across America — large and small, rural and urban — that are the best places for young people to live and grow up. More than 300 communities in all 50 states applied for the honor this year. The 100 winning communities span 37 states.

Historical Socient Winter Lecture Series
Because of a high level of interest in the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia’s Winter Lecture Series, the remainder of this season’s lectures will be held at the Historic 1917 Courthouse and not at Magnolia Grange as previously announced. The Historic 1917 Courthouse will provide a larger venue for attendees and is located at 10011 Iron Bridge Road in the Chesterfield County government complex. (more…)
Speaking out on the smoking ban
A meeting was held on Monday night for people to voice their opinions on smoking in restaurants and bars. According to WRIC
A Senate subcommittee heard public opinion on Governor Tim Kaine’s proposed ban, which would prohibit smoking inside state bars and restaurants. The majority of those voicing their concerns said it was time to stamp out smoking.

Well it seems like it’s official. The Richmond Braves will be heading South in 2009 and will be called the Gwinnett Braves. It take us folks in Chesterfield a hop, skip and a couple of tolls to get to the Diamond but it’s a family tradition for many. How does the Richmond Braves leaving effect you??
